Point State Park gets a visit and boost from DCNR secretary

Point State Park is a bastion of historical information, but Cindy Adams Dunn didn’t visit to learn about the past. The head of the state Department of Conservation and Natural Resources toured Pennsylvania’s only metropark Thursday to talk about the future of state parks and how to pay for it.

“In the state park system, we have $1.4 billion in infrastructure needs that have to be addressed,” she said, strolling with aides toward the arched bridge under the highway overpass.

“Some of the repairs and upgrades needed before [COVID-19] still have to be addressed. We get tremendous use – 46 million in 2020, 42 million last year — and with gas prices now we expect another big year. We need roads, bridges, parking, restrooms and all the rest to accommodate our new visitors.”
